History of Tillamook County’s June Dairy
Parade
 |
In 1937 a milk promotion
called National Milk Month ran June 12 through July 10,
and had the theme, “Keep Youthful – Drink Milk.”
In 1939, that promotion evolved into a celebration of
all dairy products and June Dairy Month was created. |
According to historical accounts, Tillamook
County’s first dairy celebration was in the 1920s. About 30
years later, in 1957, the community joined the rest of the
nation in the annual June Dairy Month celebration and Tillamook
County’s first June Dairy Parade was held. The parade only had
28 entries. Today, the parade averages between 140 and 150
parade entries, and is considered one of the largest parades in
Oregon. In 2003, the Tillamook County Creamery Association took
over the sponsorship of the parade in order to keep it a
tradition of the community and a part of the annual celebration.
